Depression

Sleeping too much or not enough, difficulty within relationships, losing touch with our normal activities, eating more or less than usual, loss of motivation, and low mood are all symptoms of depression. Of course there are many more, and it may be that you just feel low, sad some of the time, or can’t quite identify what the matter is.

When these symptoms start affecting your life things that you may have found easy in the past can become very difficult. Even getting out of bed can feel difficult some days. At times things can become even more concerning and young people can feel like they have no other way out but to harm themselves, or to end their lives. This can be incredibly frightening for the young person, and their families. It is really important that young people and their families get the help and support that they need to address the depression and at thinkingti.me this is done by acknowledging the difficulties, assessing the extent of the impact and working collaboratively on goals to tackle the depression. This can be a long journey for a young person but one which they do not travel alone.

If you feel that you or a young person in your family may be depressed and would like some support in addressing this then please get in touch using the contact page.

If you have immediate concerns for a young person or if you are a young person reading this and need to talk with someone about feeling unsafe and suicidal then you can call the Samaritans on 116 123 or go to their website Samaritans.org  for an immediate 24 hour response.
