Anxiety is another word for worry. Although everyone has worries from time to time sometimes our worries get too much to manage and they start affecting us in lots of different ways.
Anxiety can present itself at different times, and for different reasons. It could be school or exam stress, difficulties with friendships, problems at home, familial illness or bereavement, or can occur sometimes when we can’t find a reason, some people say it just came ‘out of the blue’.
For whatever reason it develops, anxiety can be extremely frightening and you can feel that you are out of control and that things will never get better. Even the most seemingly simple tasks can feel like a mountain to climb and at this point we need some help to make things seem clearer and to gain some control back over our lives.
The first thing to understand is that anxiety is very treatable. Children and young people often make great progress in tackling their anxiety once it is acknowledged and understood, and this can be the hardest bit.
The way we work with anxiety at thinkingti.me is within a cognitive behavioural framework, using CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy). This means that we would look at the thoughts, physical feelings and behaviours behind the anxiety and work together on these to alleviate the distress caused by the anxiety.
If you as a young person or a parent or carer would like to know more about anxiety and how we might work together then please contact us using the Contact Us page.
