FAQs

What happens once I contact you?

First of all we arrange to have a conversation on the phone so that we can learn more about each other. Then if we're all happy to proceed we arrange our first hour-long session. Sessions will usually lasts 60 minutes, although longer sessions might be considered useful, and we recommend weekly sessions. Between sessions, clients are encouraged to think about and process what was discussed. At times, you may be asked to do something specific outside of the therapy sessions, such as reading a relevant book or keeping records. For the therapy to "work," you must be an active participant, both during and between the therapy sessions.

How many sessions will we need?

That all depends on the difficulty you're facing, its severity and the progress you make during and between our sessions. An average number of sessions is around ten, but some people only need half this, and others need more.

What format do the sessions take?

The sessions are usually face-to-face, although we do also deliver sessions over the phone or using Skype/Zoom. Your psychologist will discuss and decide this with you, and over the course of your sessions you may use more than one method.

How much does it cost?

The initial phone conversation is free and you are under no obligation to proceed. If you decide that you do want to proceed then we charge £110 for an hour's session, payable in advance of the session. We may also charge you travel expenses if we travel to your home or school, but we would discuss this with you beforehand.

The NHS provide free mental health support to children and adolescents through their CAMHS service, available locally to where you live. If you prefer to pursue this route your first step is to speak to your GP so that they can decide whether to refer you to CAMHS for an assessment. Please note that even if your GP refers you, there is still no guarantee that CAMHS will be able to take up your case, or the likely timescales if they do.

Do you accept insurance?

If your treatment is covered by private health insurance, then please mention this in your email to us, and we will advise you of the steps you need to take.
